The Nordic Chiefs of Defence, joined by their respective National Armaments Directors, agreed at a virtual meeting to continue the work on capability development in the areas agreed to at the Chief of Defence meeting in February.
The three areas chosen, Space, Counter Unmanned Aircraft Systems and Electronic Warfare, were selected as the first topics in a comprehensive model for capability development, the Long-Term Project Development model. The meeting between the Chiefs of Defence and National Armaments Directors also touched upon other topics including logistics cooperation and CO2 Reduction. The Danish National Armaments Director, Lieutenant General Flemming Lentfer, briefed on the topic “European Defence Fund”.
Afterwards, the Chiefs of Defence were briefed by the Military Coordination Committee on the status of work on this year’s targets in NORDEFCO. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic progress has been made in all areas and almost all targets are on track to be met. Part of the reason for this progress is the widespread use of video conferences replacing physical meetings in the entire NORDEFCO structure, as exemplified by this Chief of Defence meeting.
